About us

Life in Brittany: The Journey of James and Kim

For over 20 years, we have called the picturesque region of Brittany home. We are bi-lingual, which enriches our interactions, friendships and commitment to our community and neighbours. We are not just residents; we are fully integrated into village life.

Our passion for music and culture resonates throughout our home, where gatherings often turn into lively celebrations filled with music and joy. We even have a music studio in the basement!

Hosting and entertaining friends, family and guests is second nature us and we take pride in creating memorable experiences filled with warmth and hospitality.

As we reflect on our two-decade journey in Brittany, our passion for this beautiful region and its vibrant culture continues to thrive, and we aim to be true ambassadors for village life.

What a combination! Great British hospitality combined with a certain french 'je ne sais quoi' - a truly memorable holiday visit.

Super conveniently located by the town square, you could spend your whole time at this one location, - traditional bars, shops, bakery and restaurants all to hand. But equally, a great jumping off point for trips to the coast, and the many cultural and historic sites of rural Brittany. James is a biker and he can recommend some great visits.

A bonus for me was the joy of motorcycling on comparatively empty roads - and they had secure indoor parking for the bike.

The lady of the house Kim, is the consummate host, supplying scrumptious home prepared food where needed. Thoroughly recommended!"

We had a wonderful week staying in James and Kim’s beautiful home. Moncontour is a gorgeous medieval village perched on a hilltop surrounded by ramparts – “la Maison des Remparts” is right in the centre. This area of France is so peaceful and scenic, and easily accessible from the ferry. We parked for free on the street, though car parks are also available at both ends of the hill. The room was spacious and private, located at the top of the house with everything you could possibly need. Kim is an accomplished cook and we had some delicious evening meals – she catered to my vegan diet with no problem. My husband thought the croissants from the local bakery were the best he’d ever tasted and enjoyed sitting out on the terrace of the local bar, just a few steps away. We went on some lovely walks and ventured out further in the car to explore other villages, lakes and the coast. Kim and James are fantastic hosts, fluent in both English and French and have a lot of local knowledge. We definitely plan to return!

Come and stay here in this traditional French house located on the old 'city walls'. Kim and James are wonderful hosts and speak French and English. Moncontour itself is so quaint and the people very friendly. You won't be disappointed!

Moncontour is a stunning medieval town in a beautiful part of Brittany, surrounded by bucolic countryside and quite close to wide open sandy beaches - you don’t have to go far here to fulfill your wanderlust.

Which is just as well because Kim & James are excellent hosts, the rooms and garden are delightful to relax in and the breakfasts are fabulous - the local boulangerie is just yumscious! 🤩
